Hi everyone,
First of all, I'm sorry for the cross-post; I'm not sure where to post this
message.
I tried to install the Reporting Services in my local machine (WinXP pro
SP1. in portuguese), in which I had a SQL Server 2k Developer.
During the setup proccess, an error has ocurred - I didn't get exactly the
error message because I thought that it was just a notification, but it was
something similar to "Error ocurred when installing / verifying /
registering MDAC (-1)".
The setup stopped and since this I couldn't log on my local SQL Server. I
get the ODBC error message "Data source name not found and no default driver
specified".
I removed the SQL Server and tried to install it again. The setup proccess
was normal, until almost the end. In the step "Setup is starting the server
and installing your chosen configuration" it happened the error "Setup
failed to configure the server. Refer to the server error logs and
C:\WINDOWS\sqlstp.log for more information". The referred file finishes with
the following lines:
************************************************** ************************
Starting Service ...
Latin1_General_CI_AS

Connecting to Server ...
driver={sql server};server=TB-060;UID=sa;PWD=;database=master

Now I'm without the SQL Server, I can't install it and I'm trying to resolve
this whitout format my computer. Do someone know what is happening?
Any help or suggestion will be very appreciated.
Thanks in advance and best regards,
Fabrcio de Novaes Kucinskis.
This is an MDAC issue. Try (re)installing MDAC 2.8 and then try and install
SQL again. You can download it here

Thank you very muche for your answer.
I already tried to reinstall MDAC, but it didn't solve the problem. I'll see
