Reporting Services setup and permissions - UPDATE

I have Reporting Services set up on a SQL Server machine separate from the development machine. I have used Reporting Services configuration to set up ReportServices as the virtual directory. This did place a new web instance under the Default Web directory in IIS (I am using 5.1), however when I got into the c:\inetpub\wwwroot directory, there is not a ReportServices directory. I thought this is where I would set user permission for the ASPNET account.

I have set the permissions to the Reporting Services folder in the C:Program Files\...\ReportingServices directory, however I still am getting an error message about the IUSR account not having the proper permissions for deploying the report from the development machine.

What might I need to check here? I am not adversly opposed to having to uninstall and reinstall IIS if needed.

Also, when I connect to RS on the SQL machine and I right click on Roles, properties and roles are greyed out.

Reporting Services Roles not seeing presenting AD dialog box

Hi,
We have installed RS 2K5 & SQL 2K5 on Windows XP with SP2. SQL and RS have
all patches applied. When we try and set the permissions on a report that
has been uploaded or created we are not able to specify domain users. This
causes the report not to be viewable by the end user we are testing with.
What does happen when you right mouse click on:
Report Server
Home
ReportName
Is you get the window for "Resouce Properties - Home/Reportname. If we then
click on the Add Group or User... button we are prompted with a dialog box
that has a free form text field with the prompt of "type the name of a
security group or user to which you want to give permissions". In all the
examples that we see on line as well as the Microsoft Events (webinars) it
show the AD dialog box prompt so that you can choose someone or something
from AD. In this case we can't. This then leaves us stuck.
We would prefer to run this in Integrated Security mode with Kerberos. We
have the SPN set although we don't need it because IIS and SQL are running on
the same box. We do have the SPN set because future reports will not use the
local database but rather another SQL database as their source for data.
Again the real problem is because we can't set domain or local users
correctly. It is as if somewhere it thinks we have sql authorization set.
Any pointers would be appreciated.You know something, I have never gotten AD to work "quite right" when using
a Windows XP machine - something to do with the behavior of IIS 5.0...
Have you tried this on a Windows Server 2003 machine? (I know that works for
sure). :)

Reporting Services permissions installation help

I have installed Report Services 2005 Developer Edition on a Vista
machine, along with SQL Server Database Engine 2005 Developer Edition.
I am not able to perform some functions, apparently due to permissions
but I do not know what to do.
When I open the Report Manager via Internet Explorer 7, I see the top
portion; "SQL Server Reporting Services" "Home" the folder icon to the
left of those; and the links for "Home, My Subscription, and Help".
But I do not see a link for "Site Settings".
And I do not see the Report Manager Toolbar, no Contents tab or
Properties tab, and no New Folder, no New Data Source etc.
I read somewhere that this might be due to the fact that IIS is
enabled with Anonymous Access turned on. But how do I check that?
And how do I turn it off?
Also, when publishing from Visual Studio, I get:
"The permissions granted to user <machine\userX> are insufficient for
performing this operation."
Also, when I open the Management Studio and connect to the Report
Server instance, I connect and see 3 folders (Home, Security and
Shared Shedules). But Properties is grayed for the instance, and if I
try to open any Roles or System Roles, I get 'permissions are
insufficient'.
I am connecting to the instance using Windows Authentication for
UserX, and UserX is a member of the Administrators group.
When I initially installed, I installed SQL Server DB and Reporting
Services at the same time and selected Mixed Mode and specified a 'sa'
password. The Built-In-Administrators do belong to the System
Administrator's role.

to be able to publish?

It does sound like you have Anonymous Auth enabled on your web site since
by default only users in the Local Administrators group have full access to
report manager.
Check the following article and make sure you followed all the steps for
installing SRS on Vista.

>|||I encountered exactly the same issue on my local Vista Ultimate with
Reporting Service installed at the same time when installing SQL2005
Developer, mixed mode with sa. Later on I added my local user name (already
in OS admin group) to the fixed SQL role as sysadmin. I following your
article step by step, added Trusted Sites, until #8. When I opened IE (run as
administrator) to opened the Report Manager, I still cannot see Properties at
the Home. Only Home, Subscriptions and Help are visible. Did I miss anything?

I am following the article step by step no success. I do not see Site
Settings When I connect to the Report Server with Microsoft SQL Managment
Studio and right click on the server node the Properties are not available.

Reporting services permissions erorr reports not showing

Hi I successfully created a 2005 report server but not when I assess
from internet explorer i cant see the reports we created, only SQL
Reporting Serices Heading and HOME
also my developers cant deploy to http:\\server\reportserver
does any one know whats wrong, or whta the default permission setup is
required to make it go.
cheersMake sure you turn off Friendly Http-messages in your browser as well. For
IE, it's under Tools - Internet Options - Advanced - uncheck "Show Friendly
HTTP error Messages".
What happens if you go directly to http://server/reportserver in your
browser?
Also, make sure you deploy to http://server/reportserver, not
http:\\server\reportserver... (use / instead of \)
