Reporting services migration from 2000 to 20005

Hi, I have been given the task of migrating our existing 2000 reports
from our MSSQL 2000 database etc to MSSQL 2005 / Reporting services.
Does anyone have any information (links, recommendations) about the
best way to approach this migration and any caveats about doing such a
migration?

MarkusHow many reports are there to migrate ? You can open the same in 2005 and it
will automatically convert all the report in 2005, ofcourse it will prompt
you for converting and then change the datasource according to the 2005
server and deploy..

Hi, there are quite a few reports (Around 50) to be migrated.

Markus|||50 is nothing. It will take an hour and a half at most to convert. My
suggestion is do this:
1. create a new directory and copy all the files over.
2. Open up the project in RS 2005 report designer.
3. Open up each report in the designer. When asked, have it convert to RS
2005
4. Save and close each report.
5. Deploy to RS 2005 server.
You can deploy RS 2000 reports to RS 2005 server but I found minor little
issues until I converted all my report to RS 2005.

Reporting Services Licencing

I've just tried installing Reporting Services, and it is asking about
licencing; from what I understood, it used the existing licences for SQL
Server 2000.
So why does it ask what licences are held?
More importantly, how can you find out what an individual server is licenced
for? [ie. rather than chase paperwork, is there a way of telling from the
server how many licences are held?]

If not, you use the key from a licesnsed SQL Server distribution.

On my development machine, it didnt ask for a Licence Key, but it did ask
how many licences and of which type (eg. 5 user CALs)... The defaults for
this machine were both 0.
The SQL Server on this machine is an MSDN version, so I've no idea how many
CALs and of which type...
Does it matter what I enter here?

Reporting Services Data Extension - Missing Microsoft.ReportingServices

Hi All,

I am trying to run an existing ReportingServices.DataExtension project. However, the required namespace "microsoft.reportingservices" doesn't seem to be available.
I thought that the required VS 2005 components and libraries would be installed as part of SQL Server 2005, but they don't seem to be there...

Any ideas on what I am missing?

Running VS 2005 on Windows XP SP2

We also have SqlServer 2005 Developer edition.

It sounds like you didn't add a reference to Microsoft.ReportingServices.Interfaces.dll to your custom data extension project - that's why the namespace can't be found.
