Hello all
I am trying to configure reporting services using the Configuration Tool. I get all checks green except for Encryption Keys (Blue), Initialization (Grey), and Email Settings and Execution Account (both Yellow). I am not too worried about the yellow and blue ones because I have read that other people have the same, but I was wondering how to make Initialization available to configure. I am running SQL Server 2005 - Standard Edition.
Thanks for the help,
S.R.
My initialization status is also a grey checkmark. Reporting services is running fine on this machine. As long as you can access http://localhost/reports, I wouldn't worry about it.|||I can't even access http://localhost/reports, I get this error:
Server Application Unavailable
The web application you are attempting to access on this web server is currently unavailable. Please hit the "Refresh" button in your web browser to retry your request.
Administrator Note: An error message detailing the cause of this specific request failure can be found in the application event log of the web server. Please review this log entry to discover what caused this error to occur.
Also, I am trying to install Microsoft CRM and it works along side Reporting Services, but it hasn't worked so we decided to reinstall both apps. I don't want to skip the Initialization step because this is probably one of the reasons why it hasn't worked; I am not sure, but I am trying to complete both installations as neatly as possible.
Thanks again,
S.R.
|||That's not good. Have you applied service pack 2?
In Reporting Services Configuration, on the database setup status screen, have you upgraded the database version?
Have you tried stopping and starting the report server?
|||No, I haven't applied SP2...should I?
When I click on upgrade, it just says Verifying Database Edition - The task completed successfully.
And...how do I restart the server? Is it in the Server Status page?
|||Yes you need to apply SP2. Yes, you restart the server on the server status page.|||Oh ok, then yeah, I have tried restarting the server.
Is it necessary to upgrade to SP2? I don't want to do it for now but I will eventually.
Anyway, how about that Initialization page in the Configuration Tool? Any suggestions? and the error, anyone knows how to fix that?
Thanks again,
S.R.
|||Under the SQL Server Surface Area Configuration tool, click Surface Area Configuration for Services and Connections. Make sure all of the services are running and under remote connections, verify that the server allows local and remote connections.|||Everything is running, and local and remote connections are allowed.
Any other ideas?
By the way, when I go in the Configuration Tool, in the Server Status page, it says that it has not been initialized. I just noticed that, thought it could be of importance.
Thanks
UPDATE:
So I ended up upgrading to SP2, and now in the Server Status page, it says Initialized: Yes.
I haven't figured out what is up with that error still, so I am stuck on this.
|||The only time I've seen that error is when two websites were being used in IIS on the same port.|||I don't know, I used the default website. How would I check that out?
I am an intern here and this is the first time I've worked with a server.
|||Are there any other websites on that webserver? Look in IIS.|||Yes, there are other websites on it. They are: Default, companyweb, Sharepoint Admin, Sharepoint Central Admin, and Microsoft CRM. They are all on different Ports except for Default and companyweb, these two are on Port 80, but different SSL Ports, 443 and 444 respectively.|||

I am assuming that your report server was installed under the default website. In order to confirm, please verify that 'Reports' and 'ReportServer' are under the default website.
If so then try to access your report manager using this link:
http://localhost:80/reports
If this does not work and you do not think that changing the port on companyweb will impact any websites for your company, try changing the port for companyweb to a different unused port. Then use the link I gave above. Either that or change the port for the SQL Reports to something other than 80.
It appears to me that one of the websites on that server is conflicting with the SQL Reports. It is my advice that you attempt to get rid of the conflict in the least troublesome fashion.
|||You assumed correctly, and after I tried the link you gave me, still nothing. I changed the port number for companyweb and, again, nothing happened.
Believe me, I have tried to solve this in the least troublesome fashion but nothing has worked so far.
Thanks again,
S.R.
