Reporting Services under Windows Vista

Hello,
I tried to install SQL Server 2005 Express with Advanced Services under
Windows Vista RC1 x64. However I allways get the following Warning:
"ASP.Net Version Registration Requirement:
Failed to find the ASP.Net Version Registration with Microsoft Internet
Information Services (IIS)."
Having this warning it's not possible to install the Reporting Services.
Are there compatibility issues with IIS7 or am I doing sth. wrong?
MartinHello Martin,
Reporting Services won't be correctly supported until SP2 for SQL Server
2005, due to ship about the same time as Vista does. The IIS7 issue has to
due with the ISAPI filter RS uses. There is a KB article on this topic (920201,
see [0])
[0]: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/920201/en-us
I've tried getting working the RCs to not avail.
Thanks,
Kent Tegels
http://staff.develop.com/ktegels/|||I just think that is goddamn ridiculous
a) we can't use _ANY_ database on Vista until SQL 2005 SP2 comes out.
b) we can't get a DOCUMENTED release date on SP2.
c) we don't know what features are in SP2.
It's like-- all of a sudden; a month after vista ships; we're supposed
to flip the switch and have every dev box in the world using MSDE on
Windows XP on day one and SQL 2005 on Vista the next day.
I just dont understand WTF that company is thinking; it's goddamn
ridiculous
If you dont have enough programmers; hire more-- as it is; a company
that has 50,000 people and they're stressed about having 5,000
programmers working on Vista _AND_ Office 2007 combined?
No wonder google can out-develop you even though they only have 8,000
total employees-- I guess at Google; they don't require 45,000
redundant project managers / excel dorks

Panel / Programs and check all boxes for IIS. You can't rely on the top
check boxes for each subsection. You have to expand the hierarchy for IIS
and manually check ALL items.
Then it will install

Reporting Services on Win XP Pro x64

I just installed SQL 2005 Express with advanced tools on my Win XP Pro 64 bit edition. I expected reporting services to work but it appears as if it isn't configured. I use SQL 2005 Enterprise at work and there I used the Reporting Services Configuration Toole to configure and set up reporting services. However, this tool is not available with the current install.
When I installed, the installer warned that .NET 64-bit is registered and that it requires .NET 32-bit to install report server. Is there a special install I need to install report server for x64.
Thanks
Wentzel

You need to configure IIS to run in WOW64 mode, see http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms143293.aspx.

Reporting services not an option on install.

I am running Vista home premium and installing SQL Express Advanced and do not get the reporting service install option during the installation. I got the warning messages during the installation that the IIS is not available but I have the IIS 7 working with all the features enabled. My ASP.NET apps work on the IIS and connect fine to SQL too, just can not seem to get the reporting services.

Please verify you have IIS configured per the article at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/920201. Ignore the fact that this says Vista Beta2, it's the same for RTM. (I've requested the article be updated.)

I'm in the same situation-I did exactly as stated in the referenced link at http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/920201, re-ran the sql server express w/ adv services exe and reporting services is not an option. I've removed all databases and sql express applications and started from scratch making certain IIs7 was set up properly( I can access the index.html from my IE browser) before I reinstalled, it was all in vain. Please help, I'm at my wits end. I've been working at this for three weekends. I've read and searched and uninstalled and reinstalled and updated, Please help. My environment- vista home premium, sql xprs w/adv serv, sql xprs toolkit, IIS7, three windows auto-updates, visual studio SP1, sql SP2 and sql w/adv serv.SP2.

HELP>>>>> Does reporting service work on vista home premium?

I now notice that my install shows reporting services available. When I deploy the report I get an behavior that was fixed ....The Reporting Services Login dialog box appears repeatedly when you deploy a report on a remote computer by using Report Designer.

I've installed and uninstalled so many times and *.exe that my install is most likely corrupt. I've browsed my registry settings and I see an entry for Report Service. This is making me crazy....Please advise how to proceed to get a clean install.

It appears that Reporting Services can not be installed on Vista Home Premium. Reporting Services needs Windows Authentication to be installed on IIS7, and the version of IIS7 on Vista Home Premium does not include Windows Authentication.

I hope that I'm wrong and that someone can say how it can be done, but from what I've read it doesn't look too good.

Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, included IIS7 in Home Premium so that the home developer/hobbyist would be able to continue with their developement of Windows and Web apps. It seems that the home developer/hobbyist does not need the ability to generate reports.

I am really hoping that this issue will be resolved in some future update to either SQL Express or Vista.

Thanks,

Graham.

Unfortuntely, see the following post to this group - it appears that under Ultimate Vista you DO get the options for FTP and Windows Authentication (a full-blown IIS) and the poster was able to install SQL Express SP2 with Reporting Svcs.

http://forums.microsoft.com/MSDN/ShowPost.aspx?PostID=1211817&SiteID=1

If Microsoft made this information known, I apparently missed it as did many others. I do not remember seeing Vista Ultimate listed as a requirement in the SQL Express SP2 information - or even the BID stuff. Now it becomes a choice whether to pay the $180 additional dollars and write-off the hours spent figuring out this problem, or just scrap this and go back to LAMP development.

I'm an MCSD and have developed with MS technologies for a very long time. I'll readily admit that I can develop quality solutions much faster using Microsoft tools - but the additional costs combined with problems like this quickly negate any advantage in development time. The extra time it takes me to figure out open source software doesn't seem that bad after I spend a couple of hours to learn that MS didn't include the same IIS capabilities in Vista as XP and now I need to spend $180 more - Glassfish is looking pretty good right about now.

Reporting services more navigation control

Hi there!
I have a report that has a link on another report ( something like
hyperlink to another report ). This link is configured in the Advanced
Properties under the tab Navigation. I use 'Jump to report option'.
Everything works okay, however the report to which I want to navigate is
placed in the same window, - this is not I want. Is there any way how to
show this 'linked' report in the new window automatically. (Manualy one can
choose 'Open in new window' option from the context menu).
TIA

Vadym StetsyakI am having the same problem and I have the reports running on a portal

same window is not acceptable and I want to know how to have it launch in a
separate window too.

I've trained our users to hold [shift] down when clicking a linked report
that they want in a new window.
We use report item tooltips to help remind them.

Reporting Services in SQL Server Express

The SQL Server Express can be downloaded with Advanced Services and thereby Reporting Services are included. I wonder if this is the same Reporting Services as in SQL Server 2005 Standard?

I have heard something that it is a stripped version that is included in the Express download.

Is it so? And if so, what are the differences?

That is correct, it is a stripped down version. You might want to check out this document, you can get what is different between the editions.

This is a good description of what you do and do not get with Reporting Services in Express Edition with Advanced Services
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms365166.aspx

Specifically, these are the features you do not get:

Scheduled report processing, caching, snapshots, subscriptions, and delivery are not supported.|||

Is it possible to install SQL Express and RS (for SQL Express) on a windows 2003 server and then host an asp.net application on the same server. I am just wondering if the reporting will work from any machine that is running the asp.net app?

I understand RS (Express) must be installed on the same server and it can only access local data on the server but I assume the url report can be accessed and run from any machine that can connect to the server?

Reporting Services Configuration Manager

I'm trying to install SCE2007 but have run into the following problem.

This is just a stab in the dark here; but, have you checked that the
RPC/Remote Procedure Call service is running (via: right-click My
Computer >> select Manage >> select Services and Applications >>
Services). Also, if you can't find an alternative solution, sometimes
an uninstall and reinstall of SSExAS might resolve the issue. Also,
keep in mind that SSRS via SSExAS vs SSRS from the SQL Server Std
Edition and above do not have the same remote functionality, etc. Hope
this helps.

reinstall. Any idea what "object reference" the message is referring to?

The red X generally indicates a difference between the config settings
and WMI provider settings, which is what the interface reads . Try
these steps
1. Open rsreportserver.config and check the webservice account
settings. Make sure that the account is same as the one specified in
the IIS App pool .
2. Try creating a new app pool and click on apply when you have
created that . Then do an IIS reset .
Try not to use vs for editing the config files as it tends to add
entries to the xml tags which cause more grief .

Also, you might verify that the SSRS service is running (via: right-
click My Computer >> select Manage >> Services and Applications >>
Services >> SQL Server Reporting Services (MSSQLSERVER)). Verify that
your Virtual Directories for SSRS (ReportServer and Reports) have been
created. Another troubleshooting idea is to run SQL Profiler during
the SCE2007 Install and activate Exceptions and SQL Statements to see
if an error pops up in the process and if a T-SQL call, etc occurs
directly before it. Hope this helps.
